Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, Supply Chain Management and Commerce — current status and direction of change (09.01.2026)

As of January 9, 2026, Microsoft Dynamics 365 is operating in reality Release Wave 2 (2025), at the same time preparing the ground for the next updates scheduled for 2026. It is crucial to distinguish between features already in production and changes officially announced that extend and deepen the current architectural model.

This is not an iterative “feature addition”. This is a systemic change in the role of ERP.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance — Finance as a Control Layer

What Works Today (Release Wave 2)
Dynamics 365 Finance has undergone a transformation from an accounting system into an operational control tool:

  • a new framework of accounting logs and rules allows you to model complex financial processes without modifying the code,
  • banking arrangements and financial controls are supported by agents,
  • design scenarios include full inventory and actual cost support
  • financial analytics has been directly integrated into planning and forecasting

What is planned
The announced directions of development include:

  • a new framework of accounting logs and rules allows you to model complex financial processes without modifying the code,
  • banking arrangements and financial controls are supported by agents,

Change involves shifting responsibility from the user to the system.

Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management — Prediction-Driven Supply Chain

What works today?
Supply Chain Management operates in an adaptive model:

  • demand forecasting takes into account promotions, campaigns and custom events,

  • communication with suppliers is partially taken over by specialized agents,
  • Warehouse applications have been optimized for performance and resilience.

What is planned?
Subsequent updates develop this model by:

  • predictions based on AI and external data,
  • automatic inventory balancing between locations

SCM stops reporting the past. It begins to shape the future.
